Default Inventory Tags for Types, Keywords and Colors

Types and Keywords are a set of tags to help you describe, organize, and filter your items in meaningful ways. And because they are department-specific, you’ll only see options that are relevant to the department you’re working in. For example, when I’m working with an item from the Props department, I’ll only see Props-related tags. If I switch to Lighting, the tag options update accordingly.

These tags aren’t just for internal use. You’ll likely be sharing your inventory with directors, designers, students, renters—people with varying levels of familiarity with your inventory. That means your tags need to serve multiple functions since different people will be accessing it.

As you build your tags, think about how you search for things, but also how others might expect to find them. A good rule of thumb? Keep it simple, clear, and intuitive.

After looking at dozens of inventories over the past few months, we built a set of Types and Keywords that we thought might be a good starting point for you. They are 100% customizable to your organization’s needs, vocabulary, and process.

Setting Up Your Tags

To manage your tags, we’ll head over to the Settings Screen, and then into the Tags List Manager. At the top, you’ll see a few new tag types:

  • Item Types
  • Item Keywords
  • Item Colors
