Job Sharing with Propared
What is Job Sharing?
Job sharing is a flexible working arrangement where two employees share the responsibilities, hours and benefits of a single full-tme role. Each person often works part-time, ensuring that the role is covered. This has similarities to job splitting, which is where a role is divided by identifying the different elements of a job and allocating separate duties and responsibilities to each individual according to their expertise.
Advantages
In our industry the time requirements are often high and the speed at which changes occur and need to be kept up with can make it challenging for a single person to successfully handle and maintain a healthy work life balance. It also makes it challenging for people with personal commitments (such as family or care-giver responsibilities) or other part time passions outside of the workplace to participate in these work opportunities.
Job shares can be beneficial to both employees and employers. Employers are increasingly turning to less traditional working solutions for talent attraction and recruitment and many workers now looking for more flexible or reduced working hours.
We have seen burnout being a major cause of knowledge loss for an institution.
Challenges
Job shares rely heavily on collaboration and communication between team members. This affects both the work collaboration and the physical employment collaboration such as time off covering. For job sharing to succeed, team compatibility and strong interpersonal skills are critical.
Facilitating Collaboration and Transparency
Luckily, Propared is 100% about enhancing collaboration and communication through radical transparency. The Timeline and Production Books can all be filtered by recent changes, which allows someone coming in on a given day to filter to just the elements that have recently changed and can assist in a job share hand-off on a day to day basis.
Every team member logs in as themselves, so changes can be attributed to a specific person as well.
